Common Questions

Do I need previous singing experience?

No, but it helps. Some of our members are brand new to music and sight reading, while others have been singing for decades. If you’ve never sung before, but are enthusiastic, committed to giving it your best, and have a good ear for music, we’d love to have you. If you can’t read music, you’ll learn by ear and will pick up the basics along the way.

Is there an audition?

No. We are a non-auditioned community choir. However, if you’re unsure about the range of your voice, our Artisitc Director will do a quick, private vocal assessment to place you in the appropriate section (Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, or Bass).

Are there social events?

Yep! Outside of rehearsals, we have a number of social nights, including a monthly pub evening, karaoke nights, and an all-day retreat each semester. Last year, we had a float down the Bow River, a few movie nights, and an evening at the theatre. It's just a great way to meet the other guys in a relaxed atmosphere.

What is the financial commitment?

The choir’s current dues are $30 per month, along with a $20 membership fee each year. You receive one month for free if you pay for the whole year at once. Invoices are issued in October and February, and can be paid online.

Is there financial assistance available?

Yes. We are an inclusive and accessible group, and have a “Brotherhood Fund” available to assist singing members who have difficulty covering the costs associated with being a CMC member. Chat with one of our board members for more information.
