About Us

Who We Are

We are Calgary's inclusive Tenor/Bass (TTBB) choir and have been a staple of Calgary's LGBTQ2S+ community for almost 30 years. We sing everything from Queen to Mozart and we have a lot of fun doing it.

Our Mission

The Calgary Men's Chorus Society is a non-profit society dedicated to excellence and innovation in the performance of a broad spectrum of tenor, bass, and baritone (TTBB) choral music. We promote Canadian musicians and artists, music written by Canadian composers and arrangers, as well as queer musicians, artists, and arrangers. Through choral music we encourage a sense of community and positive self-image among the queer community and build important bridges of unity and understanding to the choral community and the greater public. The chorus is non-auditioned and is open to all who sing in TTBB voice regardless of socio-economic status, physical ability, or musical experience.

Our Vision

The Calgary’s Men’s Chorus Society seeks to create a safe and enjoyable space for the queer community and their friends to sing, uniting a diverse world through excellence and innovation in performance of tenor, bass, and baritone choral music.

Our Roots

Since its inception in 1994 (Incorporation followed in January of 1997), the Calgary Men’s Chorus has sought to broaden its audience and to establish its place in the Calgary Arts Community.  While welcoming TTBB singers of all orientations and birth genders, a majority of our members are from Calgary`s LGBTQ2S+ community.  CMC supports many causes but continues to be an important and visible component of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

The accomplishments of the Chorus are numerous, more than can be listed here. CMC has had the opportunity to support the fund-raising efforts of many local organizations, most recently Rainbow Elders of Calgary, Camp fYrefly, the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, Child Find Alberta, HIV Community Link, Calgary Health Trust (Sing for the Cure in 2010), the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, and the Carewest Music Therapy Program at their Calgary Sings event.

It has also been the good fortune of the Chorus to share the stage with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and their Chorus, EnChor Chamber Chorus, Savridi Singers, Cum Vino Cantus, Cantaré Children’s Choir, One Voice Chorus and many more. We have travelled to Winnipeg, Montreal, Vancouver, Denver, Miami, Halifax and have performed twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City. We have participated in the national Unison and international GALA festivals of the LGBTQ2S+ community honouring their exceptional talent and contribution to society.

We believe in coming together in song and have welcomed start-up groups to our stage, supporting them on their road to success. We believe in the power of music, and in its ability to build bridges and remove walls. We believe in reaching out to others.

Our programs and performances are a tribute to the richness and beauty of TTBB choral music. We hope you will be moved and inspired by our presentations.
