2021-2022 Season

Thank You for the Music: A Celebration of ABBA (June 2022)

The Calgary Men's Chorus presents Thank You For The Music: A Celebration of ABBA | May 21 - 4:00 PM & 7:30 PM

On November 5th, 2021, ABBA broke a forty-year silence with a brand new album, “Voyage”. Once a 70’s pop sensation, the quartet is here to cultivate new audiences. Relive those moments in discos! Teach young people about the true icon! The joyful moment has come, because this is the celebration of ABBA!

Artistic Director’s Note:

Growing up in Japan as a kid, I did not listen to many songs in English; it was not until I became interested in them in my late teens when I actively started looking for them. But I knew who ABBA was because they had had big hits even in Japan. Together with The Carpenters, The Beatles, and Celine Dion among others, they are now one of few foreign artists that most Japanese people can recognize.

Last year, this Swedish quartet who was once a 70’s pop sensation finally broke their forty-year silence with their new album “Voyage”. Unlike their last album that was made in the midst of two divorces, there is a strong message of love, hope and forgiveness. Would there be a better excuse than this to have an ABBA-themed concert?? I didn’t think so. I didn’t think we could miss this opportunity to admire one of our most important queer icons.

Your time to relive your youth has come! Your time to teach your children about the true legend has come! Join us, sing with us, and dance with us because this is our celebration of ABBA!

We Are One (December 2021)

The Calgary Men’s Chorus and our new Artistic Director, Yohei Sakai, invite you to attend our first major concert in two years. We Are One will be a time for reflection and a hopeful reminder that we are not alone.

Many among us are experiencing feelings of loneliness, grief, and anxiety as we face these uncertain and unprecedented times. Although the pandemic has required us to isolate ourselves from the people we want to protect, we need to find ways to come together to support each other. Whether singing or attending a performance, choral music is a powerful instrument for uniting communities to achieve something impossible on our own.

We hope you will experience that sense of community that has been largely absent during these difficult times.

Hope Lingers Here (November 2021)

The Calgary Men's Chorus, with new Artistic Director, Yohei Sakai, and EnChor Chamber Choir, under the direction of Liz Paynter, are excited to finally be able to gather together in song - our first performance in 20 months! Join us as we  sing towards the light at the end of a very long tunnel.

Hope most definitely Lingers Here
